Our Guide To Keeping Albino Pygmy Corydora Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Corydoras pygmaeus (Albino variant)
    • Common name: Albino Pygmy Corydora
    • Family: Callichthyidae
    • Origin: Captive-bred variant; originally from the Madeira River Basin, Brazil
    • Adult length: 2.5 cm
    • Lifespan: 3 to 5 years
    • Diet: Omnivore
    • Care Level: Easy
    • Temperament: Peaceful
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Albino Pygmy Corydora do well in small, heavily planted aquariums with plenty of hiding places and open space for swimming.
    • Use soft sand or smooth gravel substrate to avoid injuring their delicate barbels. Include features like driftwood, leaf litter, and small caves for shelter.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • These fish prefer a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5, with soft to moderately hard water.
    • Maintain temperatures between 22 to 26°C (72 to 79°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Gentle to moderate water flow is ideal. A sponge filter or adjustable flow filter works well to avoid stress.
  5. Diet:

    • Provide a staple diet of high-quality sinking pellets or micro wafers.
    • Supplement with live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and microworms to enhance nutrition.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Albino Pygmy Corydora are social fish and should be kept in groups of at least six, ideally more.
    • They get along well with other small, peaceful species like ember tetras, small rasboras, and shrimp.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • They are active and sociable, often seen swimming in midwater as well as along the bottom—unlike many other corys.
    • Avoid pairing with aggressive or much larger fish that may stress or outcompete them.
