Our Guide To Keeping Canary Yellow Comet Goldfish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Carassius auratus
    • Common name: Canary Yellow Comet Goldfish
    • Family: Cyprinidae
    • Origin: Bred from Common Goldfish, originally native to East Asia
    • Adult length: 15 to 30 cm
    • Lifespan: 10 to 20 years (can exceed 20 years with excellent care)
    • Diet: Omnivore
    • Care Level: Easy
    • Temperament: Peaceful and active
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Canary Yellow Comets need a spacious aquarium (minimum 100L per fish) or outdoor pond to accommodate their energetic swimming behavior.
    • Decorate with smooth gravel, driftwood, and hardy aquatic plants such as Anubias or Hornwort that can tolerate cooler water conditions.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Maintain a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.
    • Preferred water temperature is 16 to 24°C (60 to 75°F). They can tolerate cooler temperatures and are suitable for outdoor ponds.
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Use a reliable filter to manage their moderate waste production and keep water clean.
    • Moderate water flow is best, with surface agitation or air stones for adequate oxygenation.
  5. Diet:

    • Feed high-quality goldfish flakes or pellets as the main diet.
    • Supplement with vegetables (peas, spinach), live or frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and occasional fruits (such as orange slices).
  6. Tank mates:

    • Best kept with other single-tail goldfish such as common, comet, and shubunkin goldfish.
    • Avoid slow fancy goldfish or tropical species that require different environmental conditions.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Canary Yellow Comets are lively, sociable, and graceful swimmers that thrive in groups. Their bright yellow coloration adds vivid contrast to any pond or tank.
    • They are peaceful and do not exhibit aggressive behavior, making them excellent community pond fish.
