Thelambu pods are the dried seed coat of the Sterculia foetida. It is a softly wooded tree that can reach a height of up to 35 meters. Common names for the plant are the mongrel poon tree, java olive tree, wild almond tree and skunk tree. This is due to the strong scent of the tree.
