Our Guide To Keeping Green Puddle Frog

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Occidozyga lima
    • Common name: Green Puddle Frog, Floating Frog, Asian Floating Frog
    • Family: Dicroglossidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia
    • Adult length: 3 to 5 cm
    • Lifespan: 5 to 8 years
    • Diet: Carnivore
    • Care Level: Moderate
    • Temperament: Semi-aggressive
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Green Puddle Frogs require a shallow, well-planted aquarium with plenty of floating vegetation and driftwood for resting spots.
    • A paludarium setup with both water and land sections is ideal, as these frogs often rest on floating objects and partially submerge themselves.
    • Use fine sand or soft substrate to prevent injury.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.
    • Maintain a temperature of 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Gentle water flow is preferred, as strong currents can stress these frogs.
    • Use a sponge filter or a low-flow canister filter to maintain clean water.
  5. Diet:

    • Green Puddle Frogs are carnivorous and primarily feed on small live prey.
    • Offer a varied diet including bloodworms, small feeder insects (such as crickets or fruit flies), and frozen or live foods like daphnia.
    • Avoid dry commercial fish food, as they often refuse it.
  6. Tank Mates:

    • They are best kept alone or with peaceful, slow-moving fish that will not harass them.
    • Good tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, and other non-aggressive fish.
    • Avoid keeping them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • These frogs are semi-aquatic and spend time floating at the surface or resting on submerged structures.
    • They are ambush predators and may eat smaller tank mates if given the chance.
    • Occasionally, they may exhibit territorial behavior, especially towards others of their species.
