Our Guide To Keeping Bumblebee Goby Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Brachygobius xanthozonus
    • Common name: Bumblebee Goby
    • Family: Gobiidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Malaysia
    • Adult length: Up to 3 cm
    • Lifespan: 2 to 4 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Bumblebee Gobies thrive in small aquariums with a minimum size of 20L. Provide fine substrate and structures like caves or PVC pipes for hiding.
    • They appreciate a setup with gentle water flow and may benefit from the addition of live plants like Java Moss.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Maintain slightly brackish water conditions with a specific gravity of around 1.005 to 1.008.
    • Keep the water temperature between 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Use a sponge filter or gentle filtration system to avoid strong currents that can stress the Bumblebee Goby.
  5. Diet:

    • Bumblebee Gobies are carnivorous and prefer live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small crustaceans.
    • Offer a variety of small, sinking pellets or granules as part of their diet.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Keep Bumblebee Gobies in a species-only tank or with peaceful, non-competitive tank mates.
    • Avoid housing them with aggressive or larger fish that may pose a threat.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Bumblebee Gobies are relatively peaceful but can be territorial, especially during breeding. Males may display aggression towards each other.
    • Provide adequate hiding spaces to reduce aggression and monitor their interactions closely.
