Our Guide To Keeping L134 Leopard Frog Pleco

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Peckoltia compta
    • Common name: Leopard Frog Pleco
    • Family: Loricariidae
    • Origin: South America, specifically the Amazon River basin
    • Adult length: Approximately 12 cm (4.7 inches)
    • Lifespan: 10 to 15 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Leopard Frog Plecos require a well-decorated tank with plenty of hiding spots, driftwood, and rocks to mimic their natural habitat.
    • A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Leopard Frog Plecos prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.
    • Keep the water temperature between 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Provide efficient filtration to maintain good water quality, and ensure there's moderate water flow in the tank.
  5. Diet:

    • Leopard Frog Plecos are omnivores and should be fed a varied diet consisting of high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
    • They also graze on algae, so having some algae growth in the tank is beneficial for their diet.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Leopard Frog Plecos are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish species that share similar water parameter requirements.
    • Compatible tank mates include tetras, rasboras, peaceful barbs, and other community fish.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Leopard Frog Plecos are nocturnal and often hide during the day, so provide plenty of hiding spots for them to feel secure.
    • They may display territorial behavior towards other bottom-dwelling fish, so ensure there are sufficient hiding spots and territories in the tank.
