-
About Fish Species:
- Scientific name: Trichopsis pumila
- Common name: Sparkling Gourami
- Family: Osphronemidae
- Origin: Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia
- Adult length: 3 cm
- Lifespan: 3 to 4 years
-
Tank Setup:
- Sparkling Gouramis thrive in densely planted tanks with floating vegetation, simulating their natural habitat. A tank size of at least 20L is suitable for a small group.
- Provide hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, and plants like Java Moss and Water Sprite.
-
Water Parameters:
- Maintain slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
- Keep the water temperature between 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F).
-
Filtration and Water Flow:
- Use a gentle filter to provide a slow water flow, as Sparkling Gouramis prefer calm water.
-
Diet:
- Sparkling Gouramis are omnivores; feed them a varied diet, including high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and small insects.
- Offer small and frequent meals to mimic their natural feeding behavior.
-
Tank mates:
- Sparkling Gouramis are peaceful and should be kept in groups. They can coexist with other small, non-aggressive fish such as rasboras, small tetras, and peaceful dwarf shrimp.
- Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping tank mates that may stress them.
-
Behavior and Compatibility:
- Sparkling Gouramis are labyrinth fish and will occasionally gulp air from the water's surface. Provide access to the surface for this behavior.
- They may display vibrant colors and interesting behaviors when kept in a well-planted and appropriately decorated tank.
