Tank Setup:
- Pea Puffer Fish require a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding spots and smooth substrate as they like to sift through sand or fine gravel.
- A tank size of at least 10 gallons is suitable for a small group of Pea puffers.
-
Water Parameters:
- Keep the water parameters stable with a temperature range of 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F) and a pH range of 7.0 to 7.6.
- Provide a moderate level of water movement in the tank.
-
Filtration and Water Flow:
- Use a sponge filter or a gentle filter to prevent the Pea puffer from getting stuck or injured.
- Ensure there are no strong currents in the tank to avoid stressing the fish.
-
Diet:
- Pea Puffer Fish are carnivorous and should be fed a variety of small live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
- Offer snails or snail meat occasionally to help wear down their continuously growing teeth.
-
Tank mates:
- Pea Puffer Fish are best kept in a species-only tank or with other peaceful tank mates that won't outcompete them for food.
- Avoid keeping them with fin-nipping or aggressive fish as they may become stressed.
-
Behavior and Compatibility:
- Pea Puffer Fish have individual personalities and can be territorial, especially males during breeding.
- They are not suitable for community tanks with larger or more aggressive fish.
