Our Guide To Keeping Rosy Loach Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Petruichthys sp.
    • Common name: Rosy Loach
    • Family: Botiidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia
    • Adult length: 5 - 7 cm
    • Lifespan: 5 to 8 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Rosy Loaches prefer a well-decorated tank with hiding spots, rocks, and driftwood. Provide a soft substrate to mimic their natural habitat.
    • They appreciate low to moderate lighting conditions, and a tank size of 80 litres or more is suitable for a small group.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Maintain water conditions with a slightly acidic to neutral pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
    • Keep the water temperature between 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Use a gentle to moderate filtration system to ensure good water quality. Rosy Loaches appreciate a slow to moderate water flow in the tank.
  5. Diet:

    • Rosy Loaches are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods, including high-quality pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
    • Provide a balanced diet to meet their nutritional needs.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Rosy Loaches are peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful community fish, such as other small loach species, rasboras, and small tetras.
    • Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping tank mates.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Rosy Loaches are social and thrive in groups. Keep them in a group of at least six individuals to ensure their well-being.
    • They may display playful and active behavior, especially in the evening.
