About Fish Species:
- Scientific name: Caridina multidentata
- Common name: Amano Shrimp
- Family: Atyidae
- Origin: Japan, Taiwan
- Adult length: 5 cm
- Lifespan: 2 to 3 years
-
Tank Setup:
- Amano Shrimp thrive in tanks with plenty of hiding places and surfaces for grazing. A minimum tank size of 20L is suitable.
- Provide smooth rocks, driftwood, and dense plants like Java Moss and Marimo Balls for them to graze and hide.
-
Water Parameters:
- Amano Shrimp prefer slightly alkaline to neutral water with a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0.
- Maintain the water temperature between 22 to 26°C (72 to 79°F).
-
Filtration and Water Flow:
- A gentle water flow is suitable for Amano Shrimp, so choose a filter that provides gentle circulation.
-
Diet:
- Amano Shrimp are primarily algae eaters. Offer them algae wafers, blanched vegetables (like zucchini and spinach), and occasional protein-rich foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
- Regular feeding with algae-based foods helps maintain their health and coloration.
-
Tank mates:
- Amano Shrimp are peaceful and can be kept with small, non-aggressive fish like tetras, rasboras, and livebearers.
- They are excellent tank mates for freshwater community aquariums.
-
Behavior and Compatibility:
- Amano Shrimp are active scavengers and will often be seen cleaning algae off tank surfaces.
- They are compatible with a wide range of freshwater fish but should be protected from large, aggressive species that may prey on them.
