Our Guide To Keeping Assassin Snail

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Clea helena
    • Common name: Assassin Snail
    • Family: Buccinidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia
    • Adult length: 2.5 to 3 cm
    • Lifespan: 2 to 3 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Assassin Snails are best kept in tanks with fine substrate where they can burrow. A tank size of at least 40L is suitable for a small group.
    • Provide hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, or dense vegetation.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Assassin Snails thrive in stable water conditions with a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0.
    • Keep the water temperature between 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • A gentle water flow is ideal for Assassin Snails; choose a filter that doesn't create strong currents.
  5. Diet:

    • Assassin Snails primarily feed on other snails. They will also scavenge for leftover food in the tank.
    • Occasionally supplement their diet with sinking pellets or algae wafers if snail populations are low.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Assassin Snails are peaceful and solitary, best kept alone or in small groups.
    • They are compatible with most peaceful community fish, but avoid keeping them with large, aggressive species that may harm them.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Assassin Snails are nocturnal and spend much of their time burrowed or moving slowly across surfaces.
    • They are excellent for controlling pest snail populations in aquariums.
