Our Guide To Keeping Piano Snail

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Clea helena
    • Common name: Piano Snail
    • Family: Buccinidae
    • Origin: Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia
    • Adult length: Up to 2.5 cm (1 inch)
    • Lifespan: 1 to 2 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Piano Snails thrive in a tank with smooth substrate and plenty of hiding places like caves or dense vegetation.
    • They prefer stable water conditions and moderate water flow.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Maintain water temperature between 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F) and a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0.
    • Provide good filtration to maintain water quality.
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Use a gentle filter to avoid strong currents, which can stress the Piano Snails.
  5. Diet:

    • Piano Snails are carnivorous and feed on small snails, worms, and organic debris in the tank.
    • Supplement their diet with sinking pellets or algae wafers if live prey is not available.
  6. Tank mates:

    • Piano Snails are generally peaceful but may prey on smaller snails. They can be kept with other peaceful community fish and snail species.
    • Avoid keeping them with large aggressive fish that may harm or eat them.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Piano Snails are nocturnal and spend much of their time scavenging for food.
    • They are generally compatible with peaceful tank mates but may be territorial towards other snails.
