-
About Fish Species:
- Scientific name: Caridina cantonensis
- Common name: Crystal Red Shrimp
- Family: Atyidae
- Origin: Southern China
- Adult length: 3 cm
- Lifespan: 1 to 2 years
-
Tank Setup:
- Crystal Red Shrimp prefer a well-established planted tank with hiding places such as driftwood, rocks, and moss. A tank size of at least 10L is recommended for a small group.
- Ensure stable water parameters and a gentle filtration system to maintain water quality without strong currents.
-
Water Parameters:
- Crystal Red Shrimp thrive in soft, slightly acidic water conditions with a pH range of 6.2 to 6.8.
- Maintain the water temperature between 22 to 26°C (72 to 79°F).
-
Filtration and Water Flow:
- Use a sponge filter or any filtration system with a sponge pre-filter to avoid shrimplets from getting sucked in.
-
Diet:
- Crystal Red Shrimp are omnivores and feed on biofilm, algae, and organic matter in the aquarium.
- Supplement their diet with commercial shrimp foods, blanched vegetables (like spinach or zucchini), and occasionally small amounts of protein-rich foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
-
Tank mates:
- Crystal Red Shrimp are peaceful and should ideally be kept in a species-only tank or with very small, non-aggressive fish species.
- Avoid keeping them with large or aggressive fish that may prey on or disturb them.
-
Behavior and Compatibility:
- Crystal Red Shrimp are active scavengers and exhibit social behavior within their group.
- They are compatible with other dwarf shrimp species and small, peaceful fish that do not pose a threat to them.
