-
About Fish Species:
- Scientific name: Cipangopaludina lecythoides
- Common name: Green Torpedo Snail
- Family: Viviparidae
- Origin: East Asia, primarily found in Japan, China, and Korea
- Adult length: 3 to 6 cm
- Lifespan: 3 to 5 years
-
Tank Setup:
- Green Torpedo Snails prefer a tank with a substrate of sand or fine gravel, with plenty of hiding spots and surfaces for grazing. A minimum tank size of 40L is recommended.
- Incorporate rocks, driftwood, and live plants to provide a natural habitat and additional grazing surfaces.
-
Water Parameters:
- Green Torpedo Snails thrive in a range of water conditions, with a pH range of 6.5 to 8.0.
- Maintain the water temperature between 18 to 25°C (64 to 77°F).
-
Filtration and Water Flow:
- A gentle to moderate water flow is ideal for Green Torpedo Snails. Ensure the filter provides adequate water movement without creating strong currents.
-
Diet:
- Green Torpedo Snails are scavengers and will consume algae, detritus, and uneaten food. Supplement their diet with blanched vegetables like spinach and cucumber, and provide sinking algae wafers as needed.
-
Tank mates:
- Green Torpedo Snails are peaceful and can be kept with a variety of community fish. Suitable tank mates include tetras, guppies, and peaceful invertebrates like shrimp.
-
Behavior and Compatibility:
- Green Torpedo Snails are non-aggressive and spend much of their time scavenging for food. They are known for their ability to close their operculum (trapdoor) to protect themselves from predators.
- Avoid keeping them with aggressive fish or those that prey on snails, such as certain loaches and pufferfish.
