Our Guide To Keeping Triangle Rabbit Snails

  1. About Species:

    • Scientific name: Tylomelania sp.
    • Common name: Triangle Rabbit Snail
    • Family: Pachychilidae
    • Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
    • Adult size: 4-6 cm
    • Lifespan: 3 to 5 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Triangle Rabbit Snails prefer a soft, sandy substrate that allows them to move easily without damaging their shell.
    • A tank size of at least 30L is recommended to provide space for exploration and foraging.
    • Provide hard surfaces like rocks and driftwood for grazing, and maintain low to moderate lighting to replicate their natural habitat.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • These snails thrive in slightly alkaline water with a pH range of 7.5 to 8.5, which helps maintain their shell health.
    • Maintain a warm temperature between 24 to 30°C (75 to 86°F), as they originate from tropical regions.
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • A gentle to moderate water flow is ideal, allowing the snails to graze comfortably without strong currents.
    • Keep the water quality high, as Triangle Rabbit Snails are sensitive to ammonia and nitrate levels.
  5. Diet:

    • Triangle Rabbit Snails are omnivores and primarily feed on biofilm, algae, and detritus within the tank.
    • Supplement their diet with algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini for balanced nutrition.
  6. Tank mates:

    • These snails are peaceful and can be housed with other non-aggressive tank mates like small fish, shrimp, and snails.
    • Avoid housing them with aggressive or snail-eating fish such as loaches and certain cichlids.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Triangle Rabbit Snails are calm and spend most of their time grazing on surfaces, helping keep the tank clean.
    • They reproduce slowly in aquariums, so overpopulation is typically not a concern.
