Our Guide To Keeping Yellow Spotted Rabbit Snail

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Tylomelania sp. "Yellow Spot"
    • Common name: Yellow Spotted Rabbit Snail
    • Family: Pachychilidae
    • Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
    • Adult length: 5 - 7 cm (2 - 2.75 inches)
    • Lifespan: 2 - 3 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • Provide a tank with a sandy substrate to accommodate burrowing behavior.
    • Include smooth rocks, driftwood, and caves for hiding spots.
    • Ensure the tank has stable water parameters to mimic their natural habitat.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • Maintain slightly alkaline to neutral water conditions with a pH of 7.5 - 8.5.
    • Water temperature should be kept between 26 - 30°C (78 - 86°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • Use gentle filtration to avoid strong currents which may stress these snails.
    • Ensure the water flow is minimal as Yellow Spotted Rabbit Snails prefer slow-moving or still water.
  5. Diet:

    • Yellow Spotted Rabbit Snails are herbivores and detritivores, primarily feeding on algae, biofilm, and decaying plant matter.
    • Offer them sinking algae wafers and blanched vegetables such as zucchini and spinach as supplementary food.
  6. Tank mates:

    • They are peaceful and can be housed with other non-aggressive fish and invertebrates.
    • Avoid aggressive or carnivorous species that may harm or stress them.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • Yellow Spotted Rabbit Snails are nocturnal and spend much of their time scavenging and grazing.
    • They are solitary creatures and should ideally be kept singly or in small groups.
